Individual Career Counseling
An MACC Career Counselor is available to meet and help you develop a plan that is specific to you and your career ambitions. No two student-athletes will have the same path, and as a result, working one on one gives the ability to create a path which meets your needs and your schedule. Career and Personality Assessment
You can begin your career exploration journey with the help of a personality and career interest assessments. These tools will assist you with deciding on an academic focus and career path based on your individual interests, skills, values, and personality. One such tool is the FOCUS 2 CAREER Assessment. Focus 2 is a self-paced online career planning tool that will enable you to self-assess your career-relevant personal qualities and explore career fields and areas of study that are most compatible with your assessment results.
Online Resources and Part-Time Opportunities
From your dorm room to your commute to class, utilize Handshake to navigate your career interest, identify employer partners, connect with industry mentors and select job shadow opportunities. Resources also include information about all internships and jobs that have been posted by companies who specifically want to hire student-athletes. 
Networking/Alumni Connections
Throughout the academic year, MACC provides opportunities for you to engage with former letter winners and alumni working in your career area of interest as well as related fields. These opportunities provide the forum for you to learn how to leverage relationships to get a jump start on your job search.
Job Shadow Program/ Mentor Program
MACC's Job Shadow and Mentor programs are great tools to utilize during your initial career exploration, and beyond in many cases. The list of Mentors grows each year and more and more former athletes, donors, and community leaders are joining the program. Mentoring can take several different forms: Informational Interview, Job Shadow for a period of time agreed upon by the mentor and you. Great opportunity to “try on” a career before declaring a major and/or career field. You will have the opportunity to shadow with industry professionals, as well as select a mentor to broaden your career lens.
Career Development Workshops (Wolverine Career Wednesday and Friday Lunch and Learns)
Workshops are used to begin assisting you in developing several professional documents (examples: resume and cover letters) and social media presence (LinkedIn and Networking) as well as tips for dressing for success whenever you have an opportunity to network and expand your career exploration and search.
Internship Search Techniques
Searching for internships can be an overwhelming task. MACC will teach you how to search for internships that relate to your area of study and career aspirations. Working with a career counselor you will be able to find select internships to build your skills and widen your network. Also, learn how to apply those skills to broaden your experiential learning.
Graduate/Professional School Preparation
Planning on continuing your education once you leave Michigan? We offer post graduate admissions advising for all advanced degrees as well and graduate school test preparation. You can receive assistance in determining program choice, school selection, application strategy, application review, essay editing, and interview preparation. Understanding your long-term goals are, which degree program contributes to those goals? What are the academic challenges? What are the financial obligations? Your Career Counselor will assist you every step of the way.
Pre-Professional Programs

Our pre-professional programs provide opportunities for student athletes to meet one on one with professionals from these areas who have extensive experience in these fields and can help them explore these professions and take the next steps towards a career. Job Search Strategies (LinkedIn)
Working with a Career Counselor you will learn how undertake a job search assuring the path forward is clearly marked and you are set to have your network begin to work for you. Includes traps to avoid in searching for jobs, and how to use social media (LinkedIn) to your advantage.
Interview Prep
Actively participate in an Interview Prep seminar or work one on one with a Career Counselor to learn the keys to be successful before, during, after your interview. Also tips and guidance on what to expect during an interview. You will also learn the different types of interview techniques.
